      No cells can live in a high pH-state. But cells (cancer cell as well as normal cells) can't live with a low pH inside either. A lot of metabolic processes are going in overdrive inside cancer cells. These result (among other things) in production of hydrogen ions.

      For cancer cells to be able to maintain their lives, they have to get rid of these excess hydrogen ions. There are numerous transport mechanisms, that help cancer cells do just that. The extrusion of hydrogen ions leads to a lower pH in the vicinity of the cancer, but this is a result of what goes on inside cancer cells. Not a condition for cancer cells to survive.

      In fact some of the transport systems are combined with bicarbonate (a base) in such a way that hydrogen ions will be eliminated inside the cancer cells by reacting with internalised bicarbonate. These cancer cells will consequently thrive better in a (slightly) alkaline environment.

      The body is by nature slightly alkaline with a pH around 7,4. Various regulatory mechanisms in your body work to maintain a stable slightly alkaline pH. This is necessary for the body to function properly.

      So one really can't (and shouldn't wish one could) make the body more alkaline/acidic. The rumours that claim that altering the body pH will prevent/cure cancer, and that this can be achieved through certain diets or supplements are false. The changes in urinary pH is simply a result of the body's regulatory mechanisms, where excess acid/base is eliminated through the kidneys.

    Any experts on live food enzymes? How long does fresh juice last made with a masticating juicer?
    My friend has cancer and is doing raw food diet. With the amount of juice she is making and due to her fatigue, she makes it at night for the next day. I am concerned she is losing way too many benefits because the enzymes die off. Does anyone know how much/many you lose juicing this way/saving overnight? Thanks very much

      You are correct. She should drink it right away.
      It immediately starts to oxidize once juiced.
      Especially in her condition, waiting overnight is not good enough.

      Note: cancer has been proven to not be able to 'survive' in an alkaline environment. She must consume foods that will move her body's acid/alkaline ph over to the alkaline side, 7.3 (blood), 7.4 (saliva).

      You can buy pH paper (litmus paper) strips to measure acid/alkaline pH balance to check her progress in this regard.

      Cancer is not an invading virus etc., it is a person's own cells that have, basically, gotten sick. They will revert back to healthy cells.       No scientific qualifications are needed to know that neither a raw diet nor a vegan diet - or a raw vegan diet - will prevent cancer. The causes of most cancers are not known, and no food has been proven to cause, contribute to, prevent, treat, cure or affect the progress of cancer. FACT. Vegans are as susceptible to cancer as as anyone else.

      Diabetes is not reversible. It can be controllable through medication and/or diet; the first line of treatment for type 2 diabetes is control by diet. And poor diet is not the cause of diabetes.

      And Robomonk, I am in possession of these facts because I am a vegan whose diet includes a large percentage of raw food, and while a vegan have been diagnosed with both cancer and type 2 diabetes.

      Jordan, when you ask a questioin like this you should really provide some evidence - as it is you have asked a closed question that can only really be answered by people who hold the same opinion and make the same assumptions as you do. I don't blame people for knowing zilch about diabetes or cancer - nor did I before my diagnoses. But then I would never have been so arrogant or presumptuous as to tell people who did have the illness how to avoid or cure it.

      Reverse diabetes my @rse. What diabetics neeed to CONTROL the condition is constant and immediate control of blood sugars. The longer the blood sugars are high, the more damage is done to the system, some of which is not repairable. While people mess about trying raw vegan diets in the belief this will reverse diabetes, or even that this alone will control their blood glucose, the remaining high blood sugars are killing them.

      Off the top of my head without consulting any information I have, I can think of a few food items a raw vegan might eat which, especially if eaten alone, could send blood glucose levels up - bananas, watermelon, mango, grapes, melon, pineapple, beetroot.

      HCl has an important role in killing the microbes in food. The normal pH of stomach is 2.1, which is highly acidic, and takes care of a significant amount of bacterial load. But an increase in acid content is not going to add to this significantly. Moreover, a lot of organisms are transmitted in form of spores, which remain unaffected by the acid. There are other mechanisms as well, by which organisms can sustain themselves in gastric acid long enough to be passed down into the duodenum, and beyond, where the pH turns alkaline, and they can flourish.

      Conclusion: Increased stomach acidity is not going to prevent you from infections. But apart from causing discomfort, it puts you at a greater risk for GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease), which may ultimately lead to cancer of esophagus. so if you have this problem, consult your doctor. he may start you on a Proton Pump Inhibitor, which are very effective medicines, and have minimal side effects.

    I've been talking to my husband about the Lap-Band. I think it's a great idea for him. He has very high blood pressure, gout, arthritis, a borderline Diabetic an has already had a heart attack.. If our bodies stored decaying organic matter in such a fashion, we'd die in a matter of days, and you don't need enemas to keep your intestinal tract clean.       It's is next to impossible for people who are in the thick of an unhealthy lifestyle to simply pull themselves out of it by themselves. There are no "fad diets" or "therapies" or "exercise gadgets" that will do this. You are dealing with a lifetime of bad habits that have to be "unlearned" and replaced with good habits. This usually means counseling, possibly medication (e.g. antidepressants), or getting involved in an organization like over eaters anonymous. Your husband needs to understand WHY he feels compelled to abuse himself, put his health at risk, and treat you badly in the process.

      You can beg and plead, and you might get him to change for a short period of time. Another heart attack, or a stern warning from a doctor might have a similar effect. Short of a major family intervention though, the only thing that gets "death seekers" to change their ways is to hit "rock bottom." Until your husband wants to live more than he wants to (slowly) die, there's little you can do.

      I realize it's sad, but this is fairly common behavior in America. The number one cause of premature death in our Country is arterial sclerosis brought on by poor diet, and lack of exercise. The number two killer is cancer, brought on by poor diet, stress, and exposure to toxins and carcinogens.

      You might just ask him casually why he hates his own body so much? I've always scratched my head at people who treat themselves worse than they'd treat their car, or their dog, or their own worst enemy. Our bodies are the greatest gifts we have, and rather than revere them, people abuse them, fill them with crap, put them under all sorts of stress, and then wonder why they crap out.

      Did they tell you your A1c level? You want to know this level.

      If it is above 9%, pay careful attention to the doctor's advice. Use the medication like your health depends on it.

      If the A1c is 7.5% or less, you need to take care o your health, but no need to worry to much.

      If your A1c is 5.4%, find a better doctor, people below 5.5% don't have diabetes.

      You might want to read both of these great books, they offer help to reduce your A1c level and explain what it is (average blood sugars level over about 3 months).

    I've been on the juicing diet for a little over a month (with doctors approval of course) and have lost close to 15pds! I'm happy doing it. loads more energy!!

      1 lbs large carrots (washed and peeled)

      Directions

      Put all ingredients in your juicer. (A centrifuge juicer is easiest for carrots.) Mix. Drink immediately.

    Does anybody know for sure how squmous cell cancer of the lung reacts to chemo?
    We have 2 spots on her right lung diagnosed as squmous cell. I need to have an idea of how well the cancer will shrink before surgery. Hopefully alot. Any experience with this? Preliminary ct scans show no spreading yet. PET scan to be analyzed later. MRI of the brain clean.

      I don't know.

      I can tell you this: Lung cancer has one of the worst prognosis there is. If the patient is still alive in 5 years after commencing therapy, even if they have been in a coma and are not expected to reawaken, that is called a success story, as long as they are cancer free. That is a fact.

      You should look into Gerson therapy, Budwig therapy, alkaline diet, filtering both drinking and bath water, raw 100percent vegan diet, hyperthermia treatments. At the very least, you should research what the Burzynski clinic has to offer. They do free clinical trials, and take some types of medical insurance. They are more conventional than the other therapies I mention, but without the terrible damage and life threatening sickness caused by chemotherapy. (Chemotherapy itself may kill more people than cancer. Not many people know that, but chem is very dangerous.)

      Both are well known examples of cancer quackery.

      VITAMIN B 17:
      It is not a vitamin. Amygdalin/laetrile was claimed to be a vitamin by chemist Ernst T. Krebs in the hope that if classified as a nutritional supplement it would escape the federal legislation regarding the marketing of drugs. He could also capitalize on the public fad for vitamins at that time. Since the early 1950s, a modified form of amygdalin has been promoted under the names laetrile and “Vitamin B17″ as a cancer cure.

      It has been tested to see if it really is effective as a cancer treatment. And the results were disappointing.       ALKALINE DIET:
      The body is by nature slightly alkaline with a pH around 7,4. Various regulatory mechanisms in your body work to maintain a stable slightly alkaline pH. This is necessary for the body to function properly.

      No cells can live in a high pH-state. But cells (cancer cell as well as normal cells) can't live with a low pH inside either. A lot of metabolic processes are going in overdrive inside cancer cells. These result (among other things) in production of hydrogen ions.

      For cancer cells to be able to maintain their lives, they have to get rid of these excess hydrogen ions. There are numerous transport mechanisms, that help cancer cells do just that. The extrusion of hydrogen ions leads to a lower pH in the vicinity of the cancer, but this is a result of what goes on inside cancer cells. Not a condition for cancer cells to survive.

      In fact some of the transport systems are combined with bicarbonate (a base) in such a way that hydrogen ions will be eliminated inside the cancer cells by reacting with internalised bicarbonate. These cancer cells will consequently thrive better in a (slightly) alkaline environment.

      So one really can't (and shouldn't wish one could) make the body more alkaline/acidic. The rumours that claim that altering the body pH will prevent/cure cancer, and that this can be achieved through certain diets or supplements are false. The changes in urinary pH is simply a result of the body's regulatory mechanisms, where excess acid/base is eliminated through the kidneys.

      Yes it's true bc the SAD (standard american diet) is full of toxins in food, water, air, and the soil. Diabetes is totally on the rise along with many other chronic diseases. Over processed food and white sugar is what's causing all the damage. We're supposed to eat 80% alkaline foods (raw & cooked veggies, some fruit, raw nuts) and 20% acidic foods (dairy, meat, breads).
      For example; cancer is a fungus. Cancer feeds off on an acidic environment. Many have killed off cancer by keeping their ph balance "alkaline" and that's changing their diet.
      Just watch the documentary film "simply raw" which is very educating!
      Most diseases can be cured or dramtically improved by eating "healthy" and staying away from processed food.
      P.S. High blood pressure can be overcome by changing the diet as well. Google "high blood pressure and healthy food eating" and "high blood pressure and natural home remedies".

      I am not a doctor, so I am going to give you this advice for informtionl and educational purposes only. If you choose to research this issue (on line) and if you choose to use this advice, then it is your own constitutionally protected right to do so. (I have to make this diclaimer as it is against the law to prescribe or treat anyone without a medical license). However, it is not against the law to self-prescribe or to educate.

      I have used the following herb and over-the-counter (OTC) medication for my own cystitis. I was never officially diagnosed as I never went to the doctor, but qhen one has the urge to urinate frequently without feeling like they have emptied their bladder and pain upon urination, we all know these symptoms...

      The last thing you want your wife to have is an anti-biotic~be thankful the doctor did not precribe one. Anti-biotics do work, but they also kill off good and bad bacteria and mess with the stomach flora. They also can cause yeast overgrowth and mess with immune systems, which is most likely why your doctor did not prescribe anything. Probiotics mean life, so guess what anti-biotics mean? There are many natural antibiotics in nature, such as garlic.

      Go to the healthfood store or grocery (many grocer's now carry herbs) and buy a bottle of cranberry leaf extract (capsule form) by a reputable company (such as Nature's Way, Nature's Bounty, etc). I would also purchase Uristat (OTC medicine that helps with frequency and burning). Have your wife take the Uristat as it says on bottle. Have her take 3-5 capsules of the cranberry leaf extract at least 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). See if the bottle recommends you take this herb with food or not and go from there.

      If your wife likes cranberry juice, have her drink this, too, as the juice will also help kill the bacteria. I hate cranberry juice so I do not drink it. I have easily wiped out cystitis in myself and my girls within just 3 -5 days using the combination of Uristat (or store brand) and cranberry leaf extract.

      You can look this up on line and see that many people use this, along with the juice.

      I would also look into alternatives to help your wife with her cancer, but make sure you work with a reputable doctor of naturopathy as many herbs do not work well with chemo. You can also change diets (to make body alkaline and not acidic), use peroxide for oxygen therapy, and other treatments that help many cancer patients.

    • ANSWER:
      Quick point on conventional therapies (as a reply to David G). Most of their survival statistics are measured in 5 year survival rates. Interestingly, most people who get conventional treatment tend to have a dramatically diminished quality of life after their treatment, and then die about 5-8 years after conventional treatments. This essentially occurs because the conventional treatments don't deal with any of the underlying causes which made tumor manifest, never succeed in completely killing off the tumor cells, and destroy the body's immune system, so that when the tumor comes back the body is unable to hold it in check and dies (which normally takes a bit over 5 years). As a result, the cancer statistics are incredibly deceptive, and essentially use fraudulent science to promote their conclusions.
      From all the data I've seen, chemotherapy and radiation therapy (the latter actually directly turns cells cancerous), actually are worse than placebo for the patient. Surgery is better, but it's only effective if done early. Considering that you pay over 100,000 for the whole procedure and you die faster while suffering, it's a pretty bad deal ain't it?

      As far as alternative methods, I've seen a lot. Some of them I think are either crap, or not that effective (ie. they increase your survival rate by 5% a piece), and some of them I simply don't have enough direct experience with.
      That said, these are the approaches which I have seen produce amazing results repeatedly.
      a) Rife machines (assuming they are built correctly, which is a big if).
      b) Orgone accumulators (these are very hard to get ahold of)
      c) Dragon and Tiger Chi Gung.
      I've also seen these ones work quite well, but the effects were not as dramatic and I have less personal experience with them (although I think they're still valid enough to look into).
      a) stop eating refined sugar (and procssed foods if possible)
      b) going with a, if you can, ideally adopt the gerson protocol.
      c) (this relates to the first two), do something to shift your ph to being alkaline (either drink alkalinized water, or eat lots of fresh vegatables and abstain from processed foods...key parts of gerson's diet).
      d) Look into oxygenation therapy, intravenous injections of hydrogen peroxide tend to be the best, followed by ozone injections, following by drinking a few drops a day of food grade H2O2. The first 2 are better, but they require finding a REAL doctor who's does the practice. I've seen some people be helped a lot by drinking the peroxide too though.

      Some of the other alt med stuff might work, but I honestly can's actually vouch for it out of experience (and sadly although there is a big lockdown to keep working treatments off the market, not all the alt med people are out there for any reason except to make a quick bug).

      Cancer is like Hip Dysplasia, part genetics, part lifestyle. Dog food in my opinion is a carcinogen! We know that overly cooked meat is a carcinogen, what is dog food? Meat cooked to the point it's crunchy! Boiled at high temps to kill the stench and then ground and baked into kibble which means it was effectively cooked twice at high temps (which not only made it a carcinogen, it also left it depleted of many vitamins and minerals and literally cooked off several of the essential amino acids which are replaced later with bags full of vitamins powders being dumped into the dog food mix). Also carbohydrates are a carcinogen. Carbs break down into sugar, cancer thrives off of sugar. Cancer feeds off of sugars and can not thrive in an oxygenated environment. Now that said, you can double check what I've just said just by using Google, it's become pretty much common knowledge now that cancer cells are acidic whereas healthy cells are alkaline and that they thrive off of sugars. Dogs would have NO access to carbs/sugars in a natural setting so when we introduce them unnaturally into their diet we get cancer and diabetes! The same for people, the cases of diabetes has gone up as the level of sugar consumption a year has gone up. Diabetes was rare back when the average person consumed only 10 pounds of sugar a year, now we're nearly averaging a quarter ton a year and diabetes cases have skyrocketed (as have cancer cases). Lastly and most "out there"...I think carbs are bad for even us as humans! Carbs via breads pastas and crackers are unnatural and must be manufactured. I believe if we all cut out sugar and sodium, ate a diet of medium rare meats, fresh fish, and dark leafy greens we'd cut the diabetes and cancer rates to ribbons!       CHAOS: Too much COOKED protein causes kidney and liver damage in dogs and humans BUT, dogs and humans can both live off of raw animal protein their whole lives if they eat every part of the animal with no kidney or liver damage.       I would recommend searching herbs and diet as cures. The human body normally has a 7.35-7.45 ph, which is slightly alkaline. (7.0 is neutral). Cancer does not thrive in an alkaline environment. Because of our diets and processed foods, we are usually more on the acidic side of our normal ph balance. Too acidic or alkalodic will kill, but if eating a healthy, mostly raw diet (mostly veggies, nuts, a little (cooked) meat and very little fruits) can greatly slow down cancer. Cancer feeds on sugar and carbs, but not on protein and fat.

    I have read that essiac tea, while being a good cancer treatment, can cause brain swelling. Brain swelling is a big problem for her (she can hardly walk or even stand up sometimes because of it and the steroids they give her don't seem to be working right.

She only eats light foods like farina and milk. Milk is slightly acidic, so it really perplexes me as to why the doctor is telling her to eat such things if it might worsen the cancer.

      When you blood is acidic, the pH, or "potential" of Hydrogen (H+) is low, that is, there are hydrogen atoms that dissociate with it's related halogen. This causes your body, which continually regulates blood pH at a slight alkaline level, to release alkaline atoms from your bones (calcuim, magnesium, phosphorus.. etc)

      But when you ingest alkaline foods, the pH raises slightly, meaning, there is an influx of hydroxides (OH-) This does not trigger your bones to release its minerals.

      With regards to cancer, the modality of this "potential" of Hydroxide (pOH) seems to allow for even more of an oxygen rich environment. To which, cancer has a hard time dealing with, since it is doing anaerobic respiration through fermentation of glucose.

      There has been a great deal of debate about battling cancer by making your body alkaline. This has become a focus of interest as cancer rates have skyrocketed (along with many other chronic, debilitating diseases), while our bodies have become more acidic from our processed-food diets.

      The scientific research about the benefits of alkalinity is by no means conclusive.

      PH appears to have a major influence on cell mitochondria:

    I discovered that Baking Soda can raise the Ph levels. The reason behind cancer is that people have such crappy diets eating candy, beef, pork, and drinking soda. I heard that a fungus causes it, but I find that to be false, and that it is caused by a terrible American diet. When the blood becomes Alkaline, the Cancer can't survive, because a "Cancer Cell" is a normal cell that went hysteric because it was near death. This is why people (yes even skinny one's) have a hard time breathing when exercising, not because they "Are out of shape", but because they have acidic blood caused by a poor diet.       For cancer cells to be able to maintain their lives, they have to get rid of these excess hydrogen ions. There are numerous transport mechanisms, that help cancer cells do just that. The extrusion of hydrogen ions leads to a lower pH in the vicinity of the cancer, but this is a result of what goes on inside cancer cells. Not a condition for cancer cells to survive.

      In fact some of the transport systems are combined with bicarbonate (a base) in such a way that hydrogen ions will be eliminated inside the cancer cells by reacting with internalised bicarbonate.

      You should also know, that Sodium Bicarbonate is used by oncologists to treat tumor lysis syndrome. Briefly it helps keeping waste products of dead cancer cells dissolved, making it possible to dispose them through the urine. If Sodium bicarbonate had an effect on cancer it would have been known.

      Vegetarian doesn't eat slaughtered animal or its' by products.

      Vegan doesn't have anything to do with any part of an animal- flesh, milks, juices.
      The basic simple ethic behind veganism is that you don't support exploitation of animals. Animals are slaves. They're not asked, or given any chance to be free they're just used and used until they die. All part of them are used and we give them nothing back, we just take. The formation of the vegan Society by a man in the UK was to not support the endless slavery of animals, and to not take anything from them. After all, it's their property.
      So no food, clothing or drink, or bits of an animal in any way.

      Some people get confused, and still wear leather and silk, eat honey and so on. SOme people ask what's the point, as animals are killed anyway. That isn't the point.
      The point is an individual reason- don't use the animals as a commodity. You can't have human slaves, and there's really no difference between us and other living species. The only difference is that some people think there's a difference.

      YOu don't have to love animals, or be an animal rights activist or even go around wearing peta shirts.     Does anyone know about the herbal parasite cleanse?
    My aunt has stage IV colon cancer that has already spread to her liver.

    I am very much into alternative healthcare and was reading about this herbal parasite cleanse that consists of three herbs:
    1. Wormwood
    2. Black Walnut Hulls
    3. Common Cloves

    These 3 herbs have been proven, if taken together, by some doctors to CURE cancer (no matter how late the stage).

    Does anyone know more information about this or know from personal experience that this works?

      All I can tell you is from my own experience those three herbs are the best natural products to kill parasites. Olive leaf extract and pumpkin seeds are also great.

      Beyond that I highly recommend the zapper I bought one myself a few months ago and any time I ever feel a cold coming on if I use it soon enough it kills it!

      Beyond this if your aunt hasn't already there are a lot of dietary changes a person should make who has cancer. Hopefully if it isn't too late she can make them and stall the spread. She needs to focus on whole foods specifically leafy green vegetables. At the same time she needs protein to have the amino acids to create healthy cells. I know some natural cancer centers up here in Canada use high grade whey protein isolate.

      As far as supplements go look into:

      Essiac, Mushrooms RM-10 or Host Defence, Ip-6, Chlorella, Mega dosing Vit-C. These supplements have the best track record I've seen when it comes to reversing cancers naturally.

      I haven't read the book, but I've read the synopsis you link to. Henderson is not a doctor, and it's clear that he knows very little about cancer. He claims there are four 'characteristics' of all cancers which have been known since the 1920s; I quote: ' 1. Low oxygen uptake by the cells. 2. A weak immune system. 3. Toxins -- usually caused by diet. 4. Acidity -- again, usually caused by diet. '

But his research never showed that oxygen use by normal and cancer cells was different. This observation led him to conclude that energy metabolism in cancer cells was defective .

      Interestingly, Warburg's Nobel lecture did not contain the word 'cancer' at all, which is odd if that's what he was getting his award for.

      Sorry, but there are no foods that are proven to affect the course of cancer. Cancer affects the healthy and the unhealthy alike. There are many people like me who had healthy diets and lifestyles - I'm a vegan, I ate mainly organic, I exercised regularly, I've never smoked - who, like me, have found themselves diagnosed with aggressive, advanced cancer.

      It's less scary for many people who haven't had cancer to 'blame the victim' - put cancer down to avoidable lifestyle choices such as diet and lack of exercise - than it is for them to accept that cancer is a largely random disease that can affect any one of us.

      Fortunately this very serious long-term effect is VERY RARE. But yes it happens, and yes very occasionally someone dies as a result.

      People with aggressive and advanced cancers who agree to chemotherapy aren't duped; they do so in the full knowledge of these facts because they have a life-threatening disease and this is their best chance.

      Chemo and other cancer treatments are not perfect, very far from it. But we know they save many lives, and prolong many, many more because they have been tested and proven in double blind clinical trials.

      There is no such evidence for any 'alternative treatment', including nutrition based treatments and restrictive diets.

    Is whole plant protein based diet really enough?
    OK OK I should have been more specific when asking this question.... I am not over weight, diabetic or have any other health concerns. I watched a movie called "Knives Over Forks" (or something similar to that title) and the research the doctor did proved that animal based foods are the reason why we have increased levels of heart disease, obesity, diabetes etc. Casein, a protein found in animal protein makes cancer cells grow rapidly and when a cancer patient went to a plant based diet tumor cells decreased. Same with diabetics. They had a reverse effect of needing less meds to eventually needing none. And for the cardiac patients, the epithelial linings of arteries showed a reverse in plague formation and regrowth of healthy epethelial cells. The movie was complete vegetarian though. No dairy, no eggs, and off course no meats.

      No, you do not need any supplements if you eat a balanced complete diet (in any form).

      A multi-vitamin might be for peace of mind, but it should not be necessary if you're doing the right things.

      I am vegan, and know that virtually all supplements on the market are for meat eaters. They contain animal products, some of which wouldn't even be suitable for vegetarians. That fact, in and of itself, should prove how ignorant most people are. Nearly all the supplements on the market are for meat eaters. So......

      But, as I said, I'm vegan and have been so for 20 years or so. I don't take supplements. I'm the picture of health. But I take the time to eat a healthy, balanced and complete diet.

      Yes, the documentary, "Forks Over Knives" provides scientific data showing a link between animal proteins and various diseases. (Casein comes from milk.)

      This is not new information, though. There is an entire diet devoted to minimizing the acidifying effects of certain foods in the body, with the hopes of preventing or retarding the growth of cancer cells. It's called The Alkaline Diet, and thousands, maybe millions, of people follow it. It was no surprse to me when I looked into it, and found it was mostly vegan. (I have no personal opinion on its efficacy, though.)

      As you noted, animal protein, especially the amount of animal protein, seems to be linked to disease, based on decades of data. Reducing or eliminating animal protein can be beneficial.

      Although hominids have been around in various forms for the past 2-3 million years, we only added dairy to our diet about 5,000-10,000 years ago, with the first domesticated livestock. Dairy was never part of the bulk of human evolution. Where people consume no dairy products, the rate of osteoporosis is virtually nil; where dairy consumption is highest, so is the rate of osteoporosis.

      Yet there is no link between osteoporosis and consuming plant-based calcium sources. Good, digestible sources of calcium include kale, collard greens, broccoli, and bok choy.

      TMI, I know, but vitamin D is what regulates blood calcium. There are those who say that D3 supplementation is the only option for the 75% of people in developed countries who're vitamin D deficient. (D3 is only animal-sourced.) They cite a study of the results of a one-time megadose of either D3 or D2. (Most supplements are D2.) In that study, long-term vitamin D levels were not improved in the one-time D2 megadose group. But those who rely on that study just prove they have some sort of agenda. Study after study shows that regular supplementation with small amounts of D2 are just as effective in raising vitamin D levels in the body. Of course, if you're willing to risk the skin cancer and photoaging, you can get all your vitamin D the old fashioned way - from the sun.

      Others claim that B12 doesn't exist in a vegan diet. And they're kind of right. It doesn't exist in whole foods in our MODERN society. For the 2-3 million years or so that hominids existed before the first tool that could've helped kill a large animal appears around 300,000 years ago, our ancestors got their B12 from the bacteria in dirt, or from bugs or occasional small animals that could be caught by hand. Never fear, though. You don't have to eat dirt. If you grow some of your own vegetables, and eat them a litte bit dirty (i.e. with natural B12 still attached) or eat fortified foods or nutritional yeast, then you'll have all the B12 you'll need. It's only missing from our food nowadays because we wash, iradate, and package everything so thoroughly. (If you get a chance, watch a documentary entitled, "The Dirt Vaccine" for more information about beneficial bacteria, and how lack of it in modern society is hindering our immune systems.)

      If you didn't receive adequate nutritional training when you were growing up, you may benefit from doing some research before you go vegan. But you will learn along the way, so if you want to jump in, just do it. Maybe watch "Vegucated" and see how those people changed from oblivious meat-eaters to veganism advocates in just a few short weeks. Or, just consider more moderate points of view, such as those in "Food, Inc." Maybe just reducing animal proteins while ensuring better quality and more environmentally-sustainable sources will be the right choice for you.

      Great question! My answer is kind of long, but you asked! :)

      It is not soo bad to eat meat necessarily. Some people choose not to for moral reasons (suffering of animals upsets them), but there are other reasons, of course. Eating too much meat causes a problem. Meat is something called an "acid ash producing food," which means without the proper amount of "alkaline ash producing food" like fruits and veggies, it creates an acidic pH in your body. The human body is made to run with a slightly alkaline pH. In an acidic pH, the chance of cancers, viruses, and other baddies growing inside of you increases.Hormones and antibiotics are not healthy for us to be consuming, certainly not regularly and in such amounts. Cheaper meat is fattier meat. This means that all the hormones and nastiness pumped into slaughterhouse animals gets stored in the fat, like all toxins in creatures. All of these factors equate to eating a meat-friendly diet to be unhealthy in our day and age. It would certainly be much healthier for you to grow and kill your own meats.

      While it is good that you have your beliefs (God putting animals for us to eat them), you must also recall the book of Daniel:
      Daniel 1:12-16: "Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.       If you aren't a KJV fan, it's basically stating that Daniel did not want to eat the meat and wine from the king's table. To prove that he was right, he asked the king to give him a few servants and ten days to prove this to be true. He stated that they should only drink water and eat pulse, which is food from the ground. WikiAnswers.com lists it as: "Pulse here refers to cooked edible seeds, usually leguminous, such as lentils, chick-peas and similar which did and still do grow so well in those parts of the world.     I started when I was in middle school and now 25 yrs. old, Can't seem to kick the habit even while im with my gf. Still do it often. Am I going to have any ill side effects in the long run.       Well man, I'm not prepared to speak on the self discipline part. I have had the same problems myself honestly, but I fight the urge alot harder since I found out it affects your prosate health.     Ok, In 2006 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had chemo and radiation, which killed my thyroid gland. It left me feeling extremely fatigued, joint pain, forgetfulness, and a whole slew of other complications. Weight gain is the biggest. No matter what I to try and control it, it just cannot seem to lose a lb. I eat right, walk every day and do strenuous work in a large flower garden. My whole metabolism has just about shut down, it seems.

      Baking soda in the mouth is quite good for a lot of things (ie. breath odor, killing pathogens there). However, it can't alter the ph of any region besides the immediate local area it's exposed to.
      All the oncologists who use baking soda to treat cancer (very high success rate suprisingly since alkalinity instantly kills cancer) don't even bother trying to get it into the patient orally, they just intravenously inject it.
      If you want to change your diet so that alkalinity absorbs into your system, the classic approach used is to shift your diet from foods with acidic residues (this is the ash left over after most of the digestion happens) to alakaine residue foods.
      Acidic foods include sugar, most meats and processed grains.
      Alkaline foods include fresh fruit and vegetables (and suprisingly citrus fruits, due to the fact the ash they leave is acidic).
      No doctor I know of has ever recommended eating baking soda to raise the bodies PH, but the alternative commonly suggested is to drink alkalanized water (especially for cancer patients). From my experience this appears to have an effect, but it once again is tiny compared to intravenous baking soda injections (which I will add should never not be done with a competent doctor).

    I am hoping someone has been through this and can give me information on the best product to treat this problem without costing a whole lot (money is a little tight). I have been reading about threelac and also another product called syntol. I have seen a lot of good reviews on threelac, but can't seem to find any on syntol.     I eat about 2 pears a day. I suppose my average is 1.8. I always have one. Pears have always been my favourite fruit. I like grapes and pears most, apples are ok, but I don't like bananas.
